Middle Ages Classroom Pictures
The children painted the walls of the classroom to resemble castle walls. They also created shields depicted something personal about themselves. The armor and the tapestry are enlarged photographs created on a color copier.
The windows were painted to resemble stained glass. The photograph below was taken during the running of the in-class restaurant - The Gargoyle Grill. Patrons were not given silverware as it was not used during the Middle Ages.
The patrons of the Gargoyle Grill were entertained by traditional harp music. The harpist was the sister of a student in the classroom. Other entertainment consisted of the children in the class playing recorders, juggeling, and recited rhyming cuplets containing midieval facts that they had researched.
Of course the teacher of a classroom filed with young knights and ladies must be called "The Queen" or more often than not "Queen T.". Jim, my husband, became known as "King J.". Years after having the Middle Ages as the year long theme first year children in the classroom came to know Jim as "King J.". Oh, the power of a multiage classroom.
